gods of the grave preside over the boundary between life and death. death and the afterlife are foundational parts of the multiverse, and the peace of the dead must not be violated.though devoted to chauntea whose portfolio includes only the life domain, sayén is granted access to the grave domain through chauntea’s good standing with kelemvor. she must please both gods acting as a custodian of the cycle, seeking to put restless spirits to rest, destroy the undead, and ease the suffering of the dying.her magic allows her to delay death briefly when necessary, but never to deny it. death will always claim what is owed.

   channel divinity:    turn undead
sayén can present her holy symbol and censure undead creatures through divine authority. each undead creature of her choice within 30 feet of her must make a wisdom saving throw. on a failed save, the creature gains the frightened and incapacitated conditions for 1 minute. for the duration, it attempts to move as far from sayén as possible on its turns. this effect ends early if the creature takes any damage, if sayén becomes incapacitated, or if she dies.
   circle of mortality   
sayén has gained the ability to manipulate the line between life and death. when she restores hit points to a creature at 0 hit points using a spell that requires rolling dice, she instead uses the highest possible result for each die. in addition, she knows the spare the dying cantrip. it doesn’t count against the number of cleric cantrips she knows. for her, it has a range of 30 feet, and she can cast it as a bonus action.
   eyes of the grave   
sayén can sense the presence of undead, whose existence is an affront to the natural cycle of life and death. as an action, she can open her awareness to magically detect undead. until the end of her next turn, she knows the location of any undead within 60 feet of her that isn’t behind total cover and isn’t protected from divination magic. this sense doesn’t reveal a creature’s identity or capabilities. she can use this feature a number of times equal to her wisdom modifier. she regains all expended uses when she finishes a long rest.
   channel divinity:    path to the grave
sayén can use her channel divinity to mark a creature’s life force for termination. she chooses one creature she can see within 30 feet of her, cursing it until the end of her next turn. the next time she or one of her allies hits the cursed creature with an attack, the creature has vulnerability to all of that attack’s damage. the curse then ends.
   sear undead   
when sayén calls upon her power to repel the undead, she may channel additional divine wrath. radiant energy scorches those who recoil from her authority, burning away the blasphemy that sustains them. this searing light does not disrupt the searing.
   sentinel at death’s door   
sayén has the ability to impede death’s progress. as a reaction when she or a creature she can see within 30 feet of her suffers a critical hit, she can turn that hit into a normal hit. any effects triggered by the critical hit are canceled. she can use this feature a number of times equal to her wisdom modifier. she regains all expended uses when she finishes a long rest.

she remembers nothing of her life before the far realm. she was a child when she slipped, was taken, or fell into it — and a child she remained for more than a century, suspended in the maddening plane of aberrations.her rescue, when it came, was an accident.a group of adventurers on a mission sanctioned by a dawnbringer from archendale stumbled upon the small astral elf while traversing a warped pocket of the far realm. malnourished, glass-eyed, and clinging to a starless fragment of space, they took her back to the material plane. they did not know her name, and she did not either.among that group was evander rainbane, a half-elf turned dhampir gloomstalker ranger, a man hardened by the shadowfell and scarred by the disappearance of his own young sister back when he was barely more than a boy. as someone whose life had been ruptured by planar horror, he recognized in the quiet child a grief that mirrored his own — a soul displaced, altered, and orphaned by a plane that should never touch mortal lives. another child stolen away, another life carved open by the unknown.without hesitation, he took her in.since she did not remember anything from her life prior the far realm, not even what she was called by her family of origin, evander named her sayén, meaning beloved girl, and passed on his own surname.the two settled in the countryside of the dalelands, near the ancient borders of cormanthor. evander taught her the wilderness — wandering old mythal sites such as myth drannor and other ruins nearby. poking dead trees, lying in moss, studying animals the way someone studies constellations.because evander’s long-standing ties to the lathanderian temple at archenbridge, at a young age she learned of the morninglord's lover: chauntea, the earthmother. chauntea’s reverence for life and the natural order called to sayén ever since then. where most saw this child from the astral sea as strange, chauntea answered her prayers and took her just as she was.her earliest memories of the material plane were shaped by the broken high magic of cormanthor while exploring by her foster father’s side, and she developed a strange sensitivity to old wards and frayed enchantments. where most people feel only a faint wrongness, she feels the texture of a mythal’s wound.

the ruins of myth drannor became familiar ground. dormant nodes hidden under roots and loam, forest pockets where time or gravity stuttered because an ancient spell still struggled to function. she learned to read these places the way evander taught her to read animal tracks.under chauntea’s guidance, sayén grew into a priestess of the grave. one who treats death not as an ending, but as a turning of the soil. a necessary, sacred part of the cycle. tending the living, honoring the dead, putting wandering spirits to rest, destroy the undead, and ease the suffering of the dying. most people are never quite sure what to make of her. sayén is mild mannered, nurturing, protective, and deeply confusing in equal measure especially to those fairing from big cities. but even in her oddity, she is kind and caring and always doing her best while guiding people through grief as their loved ones return to the earth.sayén still lives in the dalelands of faerûn , wandering the spaces between ruined temples, quiet forests, and the small farming villages that have come to accept her gentle strangeness.

    post bg3      after the city’s fall into chaos, temples across baldur’s gate turn outward for aid. buildings stand damaged or overwhelmed, graveyards lie unrestored, and proper rites have gone unfinished.sayén answers a summons to assist with burial rites and the re-consecration of sacred ground. she joins other adventurers and volunteers drawn into the effort, each arriving in the city for their own reasons, whether faith, duty, survival, or the promise of coin.you can find sayén in the upper city assisting clergy within damaged temples, or outside the lower city tending to refugees and the dead.
